Choosing the Appropriate Needle Length & Gauge

Pen needles and syringes are available in various lengths and gauges to support individual comfort and clinical requirements. Selection should be guided by a healthcare professional.

Needle Length (mm)

Shorter needles (4mm–6mm):

  • Commonly recommended for most adults
  • Designed to reduce risk of intramuscular injection
Gauge (G)

Higher gauge number = thinner needle

Example:

32G / 33G = thinner

29G / 30G = slightly

Longer needles:
  • May be recommended in specific clinical cases
Thinner needles may support:
  • Smoother skin entry
  • Reduced discomfort perception
